Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir
Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir (BICS) (Bangla:বাংলাদেশ ইসলামী ছাত্রশিবির) (Bengali for 'Bangladesh Islamic Students Camp') is an Islamic fundamentalist student organization in Bangladesh. It is the de-facto student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, a fundamentalist political party.[1] Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba is the parallel Pakistani organization.[citation needed]
This organization (Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir (BICS)) was previously named as 'Islamai Chattra Shangha'. It's leaders and members allegedly took part in the systematic genocide perpetrated by Pakistan Army on Bengali civilians during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.
After Bangladesh became independent in December 16, 1971, the Chhatra Sangha was banned and its activists went into hiding or fled to Pakistan to evade prosecution for war crimes. However, after the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975, many leaders of Chhatra Sangha returned to Bangladesh. On the 6th February, 1977 Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir was formed as a new name for Chhatra Sangha.
